Mpumalanga has a rich cultural heritage that needs to be celebrated. The directors of the Graskop Gorge Lift Company acknowledged this when they ensured that a group of traders who had been selling their goods alongside the road at the site earmarked for the development, were included in their plans.
The 14 veteran traders previously traded from makeshift plastic and wood structures but now operate from a sheltered, upmarket trading area that was purpose-built just for them.
Graskop Gorge Lift Co directors also assisted the traders with skills development and product diversification.
The Community Craft Centre specialises in African art, African wire and wood sculptures, woven baskets, pottery, crafts and curios. Many of the works on display have been made by local artists. The centre is awash with colour, from brightly hued tablecloths and scarves to vivid bags and bracelets. Visitors to the centre are sure to find something to suit their pocket, be it a trinket or an impactful artwork
